A drug and gang-related shooting occurred on Main Street in the North End on Sunday afternoon, but the victim who was shot refused to assist police in the investigation.
Police responded to 2760 Main St. about 2 p.m. Sunday to find a 26-year-old victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to his shoulder, Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney said.
The officers called an ambulance, provided the victim with first aid and stopped the bleeding.
"In turn, the victim would not cooperate with the officers nor answer any questions," Delaney said, adding that the man has a history with the Springfield Police Department.
Detectives found that numerous stray bullets had struck nearby businesses and several shell casings were recovered, Delaney said.
The shooting is still under investigation.
