FLAGSTAFF, AZ (CBS5) -

A Coconino County detention officer has been arrested for allegedly asking a female inmate to expose herself, according to authorities.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said a female inmate told a staff member that a detention officer was engaging in inappropriate sexual conduct with her at Coconino County Jail at 951 Sawmill Rd.

The Flagstaff Police Department was requested to do the criminal investigation while the Coconino County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation division handled an internal affairs investigation.

Flagstaff police spokesman Sgt. Cory Runge said the allegation is that a staff member solicited an inmate to expose themselves to the staff member.

Investigators arrested Pete Gomez, 50, of Mesa on one count of unlawful sexual conduct in a correctional facility, and he was placed on administrative leave.

Gomez has worked at the detention facility for five years.
