SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The Springfield arson and bomb squad investigated a house fire that appeared to be set intentionally on Ontario Street early Wednesday morning.

The fire was set on the exterior of the duplex at 107 Ontario St. and caused more than $10,000 worth of damage. The Springfield Fire Department received a call about the fire at about 3:30 a.m.

The resident of the unit said he has lived there for nearly eight months and doesn't know why someone would set fire to his home.

"We don't start nothing with nobody you know? I don't understand why someone's trying to jeopardize our lives, And it's on my side of the house," said resident, Chris Harvey.

Harvey shares the apartment with his girlfriend who was also woken up to the smell of smoke.

Officials are still investigating the incident.
