PINELLAS COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Pinellas deputies saved a suicidal man who was trying to jump off a bridge, and it was all caught on camera.

Just before 10:00 a.m. on Sunday April 6th, deputies got a call about a man who was standing on the railing of the Bay Pines Bridge.

Sergeant Jeff Esterline tried to talk the man off the railing, but it quickly became clear that he was going to jump.

Corporal James Brueckner joined Sgt. Esterline in talking to the man and keeping his attention. While he was distracted, Deputy Troy Savetz approached the man on his blind side, and grabbed him off the railing.

The man suffered only minor injuries from his fall. Deputies say at first, he was “combative”, and they had to use an electronic control device.

Later, the man thanked Dept. Savetz for pulling him off the railing. He was taken to the hospital for observation, after telling deputies he was upset over financial and relationship issues.

Deputies say the water below the bridge was only about two feet deep, over an oyster shell bed.
