ICE takes 2 men into custody at Bowling Green apartment complex

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Two people were arrested at a Bowling Green apartment complex Wednesday morning.

Bowling Green police received a call from management at Green Meadow Apartments with concerns about two people who had identified themselves as Homeland Security officers, questioning the accuracy of their credentials because they were not in uniform.

Police responded and found the pair did work for the United States Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A Bowling Green Police report says ICE took two Hispanic males into custody. According to BG police, one was a felon and the other was an illegal immigrant.

The same report says the apartment where the two men lived at Green Meadows was paid for by the owner of Cosmos restaurant, where both worked. The owner did not want to go on camera, but said he saw paperwork for both men when they were hired.

Bowling Green Police Chief Brad Conner says the call caught his department by surprise because usually federal agents inform them they will be in town ahead of time. Conner says that did not happen in this case.

"It's not something that we have regularly, so this is a rare occasion, but I'm confident based upon conversations that I've had earlier today that we will not have a similar problem," said Chief Conner.

Residents say they are shocked something like that would happen at their apartment complex or their city.

"This is a good town, and this is a place where people feel fairly safe. There's not a bad neighborhood in Bowling Green," said Green Meadows resident Richard Alestock.
