RALEIGH, N.C. -

One of Raleigh's most popular destinations to live, work and play may soon ask you to pay to park.

North Hills is experimenting with charging customers $1 an hour to park in a small lot of about 65 spaces near the Yard House Restaurant and Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar.

Management is testing the plan there before deciding whether to expand the paid parking to the rest of the shopping and entertainment area.

"There's plenty of parking, but our very best spaces often get taken early in the morning by office workers or residents," North Hills general manager Bonner Gaylor said. "We want to have those very best spaces available for customers."

But not everyone will have to pay to park in those prime spots. Shoppers and diners can have their parking validated.

There are more than 5,000 parking spots in North Hills.
