Police arrested a city man Monday for allegedly murdering a 29-year-old woman, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
Homicide detectives began investigating the death of Tayclair Moore when they were called to 48 Agnes Street March 23.
Officers arrived to the East Forest Park neighborhood home and spoke with the complainant, who showed them his girlfriend laying dead in his roomate's bedroom, Delaney said.
After a thorough investigation, officers secured a warrant and arrested 45-year-old Frederick Pinney, of 48 Agnes St.
While there were no initial signs of trauma, officers called the homicide squad into the investigation.
An autopsy was performed by the Springfield Medical Examiner. The autopsy determined that the victim was choked and died from asphyxiation, Delaney said.
Pinney will be arraigned in Springfield District Court Tuesday morning.
This was Springfield's first homicide of 2014.
