SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Incoming police commissioner John Barbieri will hold a formal public presentation Monday night.

Springfield mayor Domenic Sarno will attend the presentation, which will begin at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Van Sickle Middle School auditorium at 1170 Carew St. It will conclude with a question and answer session with the public.

Deputy Police Chief Barbieri will publicly present his "five-point plant," which are the five strategic priorities he will focus on, when he formally becomes police commissioner June 1.

Barbieri will address questions from the public that have been directed towards him.

Barbieri, a Springfield resident, joined the Springfield Police Department in 1988 after graduating first in his academy class. He was appointed deputy chief in May of 2009 and holds a master's degree in criminal justice from Western New England University.

Barbieri will replace Police Commissioner William Fitchet when he retires May 31.
