Dogs seized after killing family's cat, attacking donkey

BRENTWOOD, TN (WSMV) -

Animal control officers in Williamson County have found two dogs that killed a family's pet cat and attacked a donkey.

Earlier this month, the dogs mauled a 16-year-old cat in the Waterford neighborhood in Brentwood.

People who live in Arden Woods and Highlands of Belle Rive had also complained about the dogs roaming their neighborhoods.

Then two weeks ago, the dogs attacked a donkey on Forest Park Drive.

The injuries were so bad, the donkey had to be put down.

Animal control officers set up a trap and caught one of the dogs, and a few days later, a homeowner called animal control looking for his pet.

Officers went to the man's house and seized the other dog.

Animal control workers say the animals are American bulldog mixes and even though they attacked other animals, they've shown no aggression toward people.

"You can't really hold the animal at fault for being an animal. It's the owners who are the ones who are at fault when it comes to situations like this," said Randall Brown, with Williamson County Animal Control.

Animal control officers cited the dogs' owner for violating the county's leash law and not having rabies tags on the animals.

The man was out of town at the time of the attacks, and the person who was supposed to be caring for the dogs at the time is taking responsibility for the citations.

The dogs are still at animal control while the case goes through the court system.
