The Springfield Police Street Crime Unit took down a known gang member before he could sell drugs to an addict inside of the Dwight Street Saratoga Mini Mart at about 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers saw 25-year-old Anthony Lee Rivera enter the convenience store at 293 Dwight St. and intercepted the drug deal before it could take place, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
Police arrested and searched Rivera, revealing 73 bags of heroin, 15 bags of cocaine and more than $600, Delaney said.
Rivera, who resides at of 56 Fort Pleasant Ave., Springfield, was charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Police requested a high bail for Rivera. He was arraigned Wednesday in Springfield District Court.
