Durham family's pet dog killed in house fire

DURHAM, N.C. -

Fire investigators in Durham are trying to determine whatstarted a fire at home at 414 Clayton Road Thursday night that killed thefamily pet.

The Durham County Fire Department and redwood FireDepartment were dispatched to a single-story home around 9:45 p.m. Thursday.When firefighters arrived on scene, they could see heavy fire and smoke comingfrom the house.

The fire was quickly put out but two bedrooms and thenhallway sustained heavy fire damage.

Four adults and three children were home at the time of thefire but were able to escape without injury. The family's pet dog was foundduring a search, but crews could not resuscitate the animal.

The Red Cross has been called into help the family.
