FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A father and son from Acushnet convicted of kicking and beating a man so severely that he now requires round-the-clock care have received lengthy jail terms.
Fifty-five-year-old Christopher Adams was sentenced Wednesday to up to three years in state prison for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
His son, 28-year-old Jacob Adams, got up to five years in prison on the same charge.
Both were convicted earlier this month of various charges in connection with the May 2011 beating of 27-year-old Gary Medeiros. Medeiros had dated Christopher Adams' daughter and had stolen $1,900 from the family home. Medeiros is now unable to walk or talk.
The Taunton Daily Gazette (http://bit.ly/1dE0DU4 ) reports that defense lawyers argued for leniency saying the men were hard workers and remorseful.
