Police in Springfield said there were six burglaries reported Monday. While the number was a little high, it was not unusual.
On Wednesday, Sgt. John Delaney, spokesman for the department said he posts the crimes on the department Facebook page. He said the aim is to make people aware what is going on in their neighborhoods so they can be more vigilant.
Delaney said several of the homes had windows smashed out and in some cases, the thieves pushed air conditioners into the house and crawled in the hole.
The burglaries were all reported in different areas of Springfield, including the Pine Point, Indian Orchard, North End and Sixteen Acres neighborhoods.
Investigators said they did not believe the thefts were related.
Delaney wanted the public to look at the department Facebook page to see if there was any activity in their neighborhood. He said people have to keep their guard up, no matter where they live. He pointed out that alert residents in one neighborhood called 9-1-1 to report a suspicious man. Officers caught up with the suspect and arrested him a few blocks away with burglary tools.
