ETOWAH COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A daycare worker in Etowah County is facing child abuse charges after she allegedly slammed a child's head against a table.

Karen Lynn Rowland, 41, of Piedmont, was arrested Tuesday and charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse.

Deputies said Rowland screamed and cursed at two 4-year-old children before allegedly hitting one of them in the face with a folder and then slamming the other child's head down against the table. Authorities said the incidents were captured on video.

"I can't begin to imagine how anyone would consider hurting a child who has been entrusted to their care," stated Sheriff Todd Entrekin. "My office will continue to defend children and adults who are defenseless and will do our best to see that the abuser serves an appropriate sentence."

Rowland was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on a $10,000 property bond. Deputies continue to investigate.
