KANSAS CITY, KS (KCTV) -

Kansas and Missouri authorities have canceled an Amber Alert for a missing Texas teenager who was believed to be in the Kansas City area.

Authorities canceled the alert for 15-year-old Nomei "Mimi" Velazquez about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday because she is no longer believed to be in Kansas. They gave no other details.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation told WIBW Radio that the Amber Alert was canceled because the phone ping that placed them in the Kansas City area may have been read wrong.

Authorities say they are following up on leads that show the two may still be in Texas, according to reports.

Nomei was believed to be with Juan Fabian Arenas Delacruz. Her cell phone was last pinged on Interstate 35 in Lenexa, according to police.

This occurred about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lenexa police were working with Kansas troopers and authorities in Texas.

Kansas Highway Patrol issued the Amber Alert about 9:30 p.m. It was extended to include Missouri just before 11:30 p.m.

Nomei was last seen Monday in Nacogdoches, TX, which is in east-central Texas. After authorities worked information, they believe she was kidnapped.

The teenager is 4'11", 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, black tennis shoes, carrying a brown purse and wearing glasses.

Delacruz is said to be 5'11" and 170 pounds. They are possibly in a silver 2004 Volkswagen Passat with Texas plate DF7T507.

Amber Alerts can only be issued in abductions. Troopers did not release any additional details about the teen's disappearance.
