Residents go shopping in Cinderella's Closet

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Young ladies across Western Massachusetts had the chance to shop inside Cinderella's Closet on Saturday.

The event was held at the top of the La Quinta hotel.

Organizers collected new and slightly used dresses over the last several months to sell, with proceeds benefiting the Ronald McDonald House.

Formal gowns were available for $30, which parents said helps when they are trying to be more cost effective with their purchases.

"It's a great idea," said Jodie Burstein, a Longmeadow resident shopping with her two daughters. "These are one and done kind of dresses, so to be able to find something you'd like for your occasion, and we'll donate it back next year."

"For us, it's really important, because we are run off of donations and grants," said Jessica Potito, volunteer coordinator for Ronald McDonald House. "The bulk of our support comes from the community, so we wanted to be able to do something to give back to them."

Organizers said they hoped to raise close to $10,000 on Saturday, which means they would have to sell about 300 dresses.
