SOUTHINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

A community in Southington welcomed home a soldier Wednesday who surprised his son after being deployed for nearly a year.

Sgt. TJ Musshorn served in the Military police of the U.S. Army and had been in Afghanistan since April of 2013.

Southington Community YMCA officials said they told Musshorn's 5-year-old son Jackson that he was headed to the gym to play a little basketball.

However, it wasn't a last-second game-winning shot that brought fans to their feet.

It was the surprise hug Jackson Musshorn received from his father.

The YMCA honored Musshorn during a ceremony Wednesday morning.
