The Wayne County Board of Commissioners accepted the county manager's resignation, agreeing to pay him a $325,000 settlement after he was placed on administrative leave last month.

The board accepted County Manager Lee Smith's resignation Monday after he was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 3 for unspecified reasons.

As part of negotiations, the board agreed to a $325,000 settlement agreement for Smith.

The decision came after the board and Smith resolved "disputes regarding Mr. Smith's service as the County Manager. The two parties also worked to address disputes regarding the contractual obligations of Wayne County to Mr. Smith."

The board said it will look at options regarding filling the county manager position, including the hiring of an interim manager..
