Two 13-year-old boys were arrested for stealing a dirt bike after police spotted them wheeling the motorcycle down a Springfield street early Thursday morning, according to Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.
"It's 3:30 in the morning. Do you know where your 13-year-old son is? Your answer shouldn't be, 'breaking into garages,'" said Delaney.
A 26-year-old Aspen Street resident was startled out of a dead sleep by a loud bang that came from her garage alongside her house.
"She peered out the window and observed her garage door open up fast and watched two young juvenile males wheel her boyfriend's dirt bike out of the driveway and down Aspen Street towards Butternut," Delaney said.
Two officers on patrol in the area spotted the teens, but the juveniles immediately dropped the bike and ran through the woods towards Brunton School.
"The officers anticipated where they would pop out and the two youths ran right into the officers waiting hands," Delaney said, adding that the officers confiscated the bolt cutter that the teens were carrying.
The two juveniles were processed and their parents were notified. Neither one of them lived in the neighborhood where the break-in occurred.
