RALEIGH, N.C. -

An estimated 8,000 people are expected to participate in the 10th annual Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh Saturday morning.

Participants run 2.5 miles from the North Carolina State University bell tower to Krispy Kreme on Peace Street, eat a dozen doughnuts and then run back.

The charity race raises money for the North Carolina Children's Hospital.

Last year's challenge was the most successful to date, drawing a record 8,000 participants and raising $184,000.

The race even gained worldwide notoriety as one of Sports Illustrated's "102 Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate."
