The family of Derek Russell, the Springfield man hit and killed New Year's morning by an alleged drunken driver is trying to raise money to pay for his funeral services.
Community members and family held a fundraiser Thursday night at Club Lux on Worthington Street in Springfield.
Russell's parents say people have been donating, including Big Y and Stop and Shop.
They say it's humbling to have so much community support.
"I think that the community is great, we appreciate it. Everything that everyone has donated, all the contributions, anything anybody has done, we thank you," said Russell's mother, Joanne Fisher.
Donations can be sent to Henderson's Funeral Home care of Derek Russell.
