Trooper Potts returns to work after being shot nearly a year ago

DURHAM, N.C. -

A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper who was shot five times almost a year ago during a traffic stop in Durham is returning to work.

First Sergeant Jeff Gordon of the Highway Patrol said Trooper Michael Potts is expected to return to work today.

Potts was performing a routine traffic stop on Feb. 18, 2013 when he was shot five times by Mikel Brady. Potts was shot twice in the head, once in the shoulder and a couple times in the hands.

Brady was arrested a day after the shooting and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. He was later indicted on federal charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
