AMHERST, MA (WSHM) -

Three female UMass students are recovering Monday night after being hit by a car while crossing a crosswalk.

It happened on Commonwealth Avenue near the campus recreational center just after 6 p.m.

UMass spokesman Ed Blaguszewski tells CBS 3 that two of the three girls were treated on scene.

The third victim was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital with a head injury. Blaguszewski says she was alert and talking at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the car is not a UMass student.

UMass police are investigating and Blaguszewski says charges are pending.
