Debra Boronski, CEO and founder of the Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, announced her candidacy for state senator on Saturday.
Boronski had spent the day touring the nine cities and towns that make up the first Hampden and Hampshire district.
While the election is still months away, Boronski knows exactly where she will start if elected.
"I feel very strongly that we need to address our taxing situation," said Boronski. "I think that we are taxing far too much and working far too little to reform the spending that we have going on the state level."
Boronski said she is a dedicated supporter of local, family-owned businesses and was previously named woman of the year by the Massachusetts Business and Professional Women's Association.
