Weather prevents Raleigh soup kitchens from opening

RALEIGH, N.C. -

The snow storm also kept several soup kitchens in the Triangle from opening Wednesday.

Shepard's Table in downtown Raleigh was one facility that did not serve meals because of the subfreezing temperatures.

A note posted on the door said, "Our kitchen is closed due to inclement weather."

The soup kitchen at the Salvation Army was also closed.

Mark Newsom and his wife Stephanie are homeless, and say they couldn't find a place to get a meal.

"If you're homeless, how in the world are you supposed to get a hot meal in this kind of weather?" asked Stephanie Newsom.

The shelters said bad roads and snow kept staff from being able to open.

The Salvation Army said they will have to see how road conditions are in the morning before they know if they'll open on Thursday.
