MORRISVILLE, N.C. -

A total of 275 soldiers returning from Afghanistan arrived at Raleigh-Durham International Airport Wednesday night, and the USO of North Carolina scrambled to accommodate the soldiers.

They were originally scheduled to be transferred to Cherry Point Marine Corp Air Station, the USO said.

The USO and other volunteers welcomed the troops back.

"We look at this as a moment that matters. A moment that counts in the lives of these young men and women who are guarding our freedom," said John Falkenbury, president of the USO of NC ."It is our mission and an honor to provide for these troops who have given so much in service to our country."

The Marines will be back on their way to Cherry Point Thursday morning.

The USO of North Carolina was founded in 1941, during World War II.
