DURHAM, N.C. -

A one-story commercial building on Highway 55 caught fire late Tuesday afternoon.

The building is used for the sale of tombstones.

The fire was first noticed by WNCN photojournalist Dave Hattman, who alerted firefighters.

The Durham Fire Department rushed to the scene at about 4:30 p.m. to the location at 4309 Highway 55. There was heavy fire at the back of the building when firefighters arrived.

An attached storage area was destroyed, authorities said, and there was significant damage to the rest of the building.

The building was not occupied at the time and there were no injuries.

About 25 firefighters responded to the call and traffic on the northbound lanes of Highway 55 was diverted.
