SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

Three people are homeless after a fire in their Springfield home Wednesday afternoon.

Several fire crews responded to 22 Emmett St. just before 4 p.m.

Everyone inside made it out without injuries.

The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating if construction being done on the house played a role in starting the fire.

"There are reports that the house was under rehab. You can see there are new solar panels. I'm unclear on that at this point too until I talk to the investigator on what he comes up with," said Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant.

Leger said damages are estimated from $100,000 to a total loss.

A few pets are believed to have perished in the fire.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents who lived there.
