The owner of a Phoenix smoke shop is OK after a late-morning robbery ended in gunfire, police said.
Two suspects entered the business at 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road around 11:50 a.m. Monday wearing full ski masks and gloves.
"They demanded money and also property from the store," said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump.
They obtained some cash and merchandise, like electronics, watches and laptops and bolted into the parking lot, Crump said.
"As they were trying to flee the store, the owner came out armed with a handgun at which time at least one suspect fired rounds back at the owner," Crump said.
It's believed no one was hit, Crump said.
The suspect vehicle was described a white Honda. It had some sort of custom wheels or rims and was last seen westbound on Thomas Road.
Crump said officers are looking for surveillance camera images from around the area in hopes it will provide further clues.
