PHOENIX (CBS5) -
A former officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections has pleaded not guilty to having sex with an inmate in a prison vehicle.
Court officials said Anthony Marotta, 26, made his plea Tuesday morning on two counts of unlawful sexual conduct with an inmate.
DOC officials said they were informed Marotta had an "inappropriate relationship with an inmate," according to DOC spokesman Bill Lamoreaux.
A prison inmate who drives an internal transportation vehicle told investigators she looked into the rear view mirror and observed Marotta having sex with a female inmate in the back of the van, according to a probable cause statement.
The victim told investigators she had engaged in sex with Marotta two separate times, sometime in November 2013 and again on Dec. 24, 2013 in the prison van, the court document stated.
Marotta resigned on Dec. 31, 2013 as the investigation unfolded, Lamoreaux said.
His next court date is scheduled for March 11.
