Tracking a Western Mass snowstorm

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

The arctic chill is back in the region. We have an Alberta clipper low pressure area moving through Tuesday. This will bring some fluffy snow in the afternoon after a bitter start to the day. We clear out New Year's Eve, but the arctic plunge surges in with wind chills near 0.

We are monitoring a potential snowstorm for Thursday, Jan. 2. This is showing signs of a classic coastal nor'easter, which will likely spread several inches of snow throughout southern New England. Preliminary forecast for Western Mass is for 6 or more inches.

Today: Early sun to midday snow showers. A coating, high 24.

New Year's Eve:
Clearing with wind chill near 0. Low near 8.

New Year's Day: Clouding up. High of 20.

Wednesday night and Thursday: Fluffy snow and very cold. Temperature in the 10s.

Friday: Below zero to start.
