Westfield Gas and Electric is warning its customers that they may see a rate increase before the winter is through.
The company said the interstate pipeline infrastructure that delivers natural gas where it's needed, particularly here in New England, has difficulty meeting the demand of customers.
They also said it will be at least three to five years before additional pipelines are available to meet that demand.
The company said they've taken steps leading up to the heating season to absorb potential price spikes, but recent volatility may cause a slight moderation to supply rates this winter for its customers.
