Shoppers headed to the Holyoke Mall by the thousands Thursday for returns and to take advantage of huge discounts offered by retailers.
Some shoppers said the mall was busier Thursday then it was on the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Retail analysts said holiday sales were down this year, partly because of a shorter season and partly because of bad weather.
Several big-box stores offered deep discounts to draw in customers before the end of the year.
Many people were at the mall to return gifts, but said deals offered by stores were too good to pass up.
Co-manager of Hobby Lobby John Taber said the store didn't get a Black Friday rush. He said a majority of the business Thursday was shoppers taking advantage of huge markdowns on Christmas decorations.
