LUDLOW, MA (WSHM) -

After a major ice storm leaves thousands of Maine residents without power, the Red Cross is sending volunteers to help those affected.

Volunteers from across New England are making their way to the state, including one Western Mass woman.

Ludlow resident, Elaine Karalekas, was deployed to Maine Thursday afternoon and it was not her first deployment.

She has been a volunteer with the Red Cross for six years.

During Superstorm Sandy, she was working in shelters in New York. She was attached to the relief operations for the Western Mass tornado outbreak, Hurricane Irene, and the October Snowstorm of 2011, all with the American Red Cross.
