A civil suit was filed in Hampden Superior Court against a man from Springfield who was behind the wheel of a truck that killed a woman in West Springfield in February 2012. The driver, 61-year-old Ale Moultrie, was not charged with her death. Police said the victim, 43-year-old Shela Wheeler, was not in a crosswalk when she was struck and killed.
Attorney Daniel D. Kelly also raised questions about behavior of Moultrie's brother, who is a Springfield police officer. Kelly said the police report stated his brother showed up to the scene in West Springfield in uniform and advised his brother to stay quiet.
In May of 2013, Moultrie was behind the wheel of the same pickup truck when he hit and killed another pedestrian in Springfield on Plainfield Street, according to police.
The attorney for Kyle Wheeler said he filed the suit because he felt there was not enough done with the criminal investigation. The suit stated Moultrie was driving in a negligent and reckless fashion when he struck and killed Shela Wheeler.
The suit demands a jury trial to award monetary damages.
