Western Massachusetts residents gathered Sunday evening to remember the life of Nelson Mandela.
The former South African president died Thursday at the age of 95.
Members of various African communities who now call Western Mass home took part in a memorial Mass.
The Mass took place at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
Organizers said rather than mourn the loss of Mandela, people should celebrate his life.
Official services for Mandela will begin on Tuesday in South Africa.
