The Council of Churches of Western Massachusetts began their fuel assistance program this week.
The program has been going on for 40 years and runs from December through March.
It is completely supported financially by area churches.
Resident of the council, Archbishop Timothy Paul, said they are seeing a greater need this year, and for many this is a last resort.
He said this is the season for giving and no donation is too small.
"I cried last year when a young kid sent a $2 bill. That was touching. A child sending a letter saying this is for the people who will be cold this winter," said Paul.
He continued to say the council serves all of Western Mass and helps around 200 families every year.
