SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The Springfield Police Department's annual youth learn-to-skate program kicks off this weekend.
Springfield police officers will be on the ice of Cyr Arena in the city's Forest Park neighborhood on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. to teach children of all ages how to ice skate.
The ice time and use of skates are free.
Children are asked to bring a properly fitted helmet and gloves or mittens.
The one-hour sessions run every Saturday at the same time through Dec. 28.
The Dec. 21 session will be a special Learn-to-Skate Christmas Party where Santa Claus will join the children on the ice and every child will get a present.
