Auburn survived a close game against Tennessee State, beating them 78-73. Auburn survived a close game against Tennessee State, beating them 78-73.

AUBURN, AL (RNN) - Auburn struggled through most of the first half but held on to the lead for the entire second half, defeating stubborn yet winless Tennessee State 78-73 at home on Wednesday.

Auburn (4-1) never held a lead greater than nine points over Tennessee State (0-7), whose largest lead was only four points early in the first half. Auburn made 81 percent of its 37 free throws compared to just half of Tennessee State's 24 attempts.

Chris Denson led Auburn with 17 points, scoring all of them in the second half.

Auburn now hits the road for the first time this season and will take on No. 17 Iowa State in the Big12/SEC Challenge on Monday, Dec. 2.
