BOSTON (AP) - Former state Sen. Warren Tolman has entered the race for Massachusetts attorney general.

Tolman, the 1998 Democratic nominee for lieutenant governor and a 2002 candidate for governor, announced his candidacy on Thursday in a statement in which he promised to bring passion and extensive experience in government and the private sector to the attorney general's job.

The 54-year-old Watertown resident is now in private law practice. He told The Associated Press he would focus his campaign on issues including civil rights, consumer and business protections and pocketbook issues like the soaring costs of college tuition.

The state's current Attorney General, Martha Coakley, is seeking the Democratic nomination for governor.

Democratic state Rep. Harold Naughton and Maura Healey, a former top aide to Coakley, are also running for attorney general.
