A stretch of Interstate 40 reopened Sunday evening after it was closed this weekend so construction crews made repairs for a recurring problem.
Over the summer, pieces of concrete crumbled from the bridge over Charlotte Avenue downtown on three different occasions, causing emergency closures and temporary fixes by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Now, they're hoping to do a more substantial fix by replacing an entire stretch of the bridge surface.
Westbound I-40 was be closed starting at the split with Interstate 65, so drivers there were diverted south on I-65 instead.
Both directions of Charlotte Avenue under that bridge was also be blocked while workers made the repairs.
And the westbound I-40 entrance ramps at Demonbreun, Broadway and Church Street were also closed.
