UPDATE: Driver charged in I-64 East crash in New Kent

NEW KENT, VA (WWBT) -

New information tonight in an accident on I-64 East in New Kent County that sent several people to the hospital.

Troopers say the driver of a station wagon is being charged with making an unsafe lane change.

State police tell us the 82 year-old man from Maryland, hit a car Friday afternoon while changing lanes causing both to run off the road.

That man was flown to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries. Two female passengers had minor injuries.

The other driver was also taken to the hospital, but is expected to be okay.

All lanes are back open on I-64 East at mile marker 222 after a crash Friday afternoon.

This is just past the Eltham Road exit. Virginia State Police said two vehicles were involved in the crash, with injuries. One person was taken to the hospital by med flight. No word yet on the extent of the injuries of those involved.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash. Expect delays in the area.
