Western Massachusetts residents celebrating World Food Day took to the streets Saturday afternoon, as part of the worldwide "March Against Monsanto."
Monsanto is a company that produces genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.
While Monsanto, a Fortune 500 company, claims they help support farmers in their efficiency and reducing costs, the group rallying on Saturday said GMOs are not safe.
They added that the march was about bringing those safety issues to light and supporting legislation that would do the same.
"Overall, we're looking to get GMOs labeled," said march organizer Cheryl Przezdziecki. "There's several labeling initiatives here in Massachusetts now that would require labels on foods that have been genetically modified."
Saturday's march was the second one held this year, as the group also took part in the first worldwide "March Against Monsanto" back in May.
