Hundreds packed into the middle school gym on Saturday morning to take part in an annual cheerleading contest.
The Ware Public Schools complex was the site of the 2013 Youth Cheerleader Exhibition.
Cheerleaders of elementary and middle schools ages across Western Massachusetts took part in the event.
One of the Ware High School cheerleaders, who helped put on the event, said the competition makes a big impact even on the youngest of the bunch.
"I think it's a good experience for them," said freshman Makaela Flamand. "They can see what the older girls do and they can show what they can do, too, as younger cheerleaders."
Up for grabs during the exhibition was the "spirit stick," which goes annually to the group with the loudest supporters.
