Before she was Miss Arizona, Jennifer Smestad battled Tourette's Syndrome as a child and young teenager.
She will now be helping others who suffer from rare childhood disorders. Smestad recently toured TGen, a Phoenix based non-profit medical research organization.
TGen officials say Smested will now be supporting TGen and its efforts. As part of her platform, Smestad has championed the cause of childhood neurological disorders.
TGen's Center for Rare Childhood Disorders is designed to help children overcome the difficulties they face.
Right now, Smestad plans to appear at TGen's "Run for Kids" Jan. 19 during the Arizona Marathon weekend.
