A man in Baton Rouge called officials Wednesday afternoon after he found a WWII era pineapple grenade in his driveway.
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's officials say a landscaping crew found the grenade as they were putting dirt in a driveway in the 13000 block of Highland Road. The grenade was in the dirt that was delivered to the home.
The Sheriff's Office and the Baton Rouge Police Department set up a perimeter around the device.
The EBRSO bomb robot placed the device along with a small amount of explosives with the grenade a safe distance from the road and residence.
The grenade was detonated around 2:30 p.m.
Before the detonation, Highland Road between Siegen Lane and Amos Road were shut down in both directions for about 20 minutes. It has since been reopened.
EBRSO Bomb Squad is investigating where the grenade came from.
