Westfield Gas & Electric of Westfield presented a check in the amount $19,857 to the 104th Fighter Wing on Tuesday at Barnes. The check was given because of the wings' involvement in the Westfield Gas & Electric's Retrofit Program.
"The more energy that the base saves, the more the city of Westfield saves ... This is a great partnership between the base and the Westfield community," Sean Fitzgerald, energy specialist and customer account representative from Westfield Gas & Electric, stated Tuesday.
Officials say the unit is participating in the Westfield Gas & Electric's Retrofit Program and completed the first review of the proposed insulation and lighting retrofit projects.
They were able to save $19,857.
"The base will continue to upgrade its electrical utilities in an effort to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent by the year 2015," 104th Fighter Wing Commander Colonel James Keefe said. "The Westfield G & E is truly an exceptional partner and we look forward to their continued support for many more years to come."
