TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The tragedies involving children left in hot cars caused one Tucson grandma to do something about it.

Karen Franco and her daughter Chrystal Franco have been working together to come up with something that would help parents and caregivers remember their child is in the backseat.

Six months ago, they came up with the idea of the "Car Seat Reminder" wristband. It's thick bright orange silicon bracelet that says "Car Seat Reminder" on it. It's been available online since July.

Here's how it works.

The orange bracelet is stored on the fastening belt of the car seat or seat belt of the booster seat. When you buckle the child in the seat, you slip the bracelet on your wrist. When you take the child out of the car, you slip the bracelet back on the car seat or booster seat. The tagline on the website says, "If it's still on your wrist, the child is still in the car."

Karen says the bracelet "isn't pretty like a piece of jewelry" and is easily noticed.

Karen knows the bracelet won't prevent all hot car tragedies and admits her product has gotten mixed reviews. She hopes her product at the very least sparks discussion.

The "Car Seat Reminder" bracelets cost $5.00. For more information, visit: http://www.carseatreminders.com/
