Toledo Police say two people are in custody after a SWAT team responded to an east Toledo home Thursday morning.
The incident began when a resident called police around 9:15 a.m. about an aggravated burglary, saying he chased away two men who ran out the back door of his home in the 200 block of Plymouth Street. The man told police he chased them through an alley and over a couple of blocks to a duplex on Oswald Street. He also told police he heard the older suspect tell the younger suspect to "shoot him," referring to a black handgun he was carrying.
When the victim caught up to the suspects, he demanded his property to be returned, but the suspects ran into the upper residence in the 600 block of Oswald.
Once inside, they refused all commands, including answering the door. Emergency responders then surrounded the residence. After a period of negotiation, two suspects were arrested: 26-year-old Luke Short, from Chicago, and a 17-year-old from Toledo.
Police say they have not recovered a weapon. An investigation is ongoing with charges pending.
Waite High School and Garfield Elementary School, each about three blocks from the home, were on lockdown during the incident. Those lockdowns have since been lifted.
