Vendors and exhibitors were making final preparations for the Big E in West Springfield Thursday. The Eastern States Exposition runs Friday, Sept. 13 through Sept. 29.
Catherine Pappas from the Big E said there were nearly 450 vendors selling everything from leather to hot tubs. There were also 95 food vendors, many of them with fried offerings on the menu.
For the children, at least 50 rides were brought in for the fair. There was also a petting zoo and barns full of every sort of farm animal.
Gates open Friday at 8 a.m. and most vendors open at 10 a.m.
Last year 1,365,896 people went through the gates at the Big E. They gave the city of West Springfield $1.3 million last year for taxes, licensing, fees and donations.
